Pratyekabuddha

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A Pratyekabuddha ( single awakened person ) is a person who has awakened to become a Buddha , but who does not teach and has not taken a Buddha vow. Non-teaching is assessed differently depending on the Buddhist schooling . Some schools see pratyekabuddhas as underdeveloped Buddhas because they lack compassion for unredeemed beings. Other directions regard the Pratyekabuddha as a full-fledged Buddha, who, however, simply has no desire to teach the Dharma . Another theory is that pratyekabuddhas only appeared in ages when the Buddha's teaching was lost.
