Predonation sampling

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Medical term derived from the English language

Pre - before
Donation - donation
Sampling - here: laboratory examination (samples)

The separation of the sample volumes required for laboratory tests before the actual blood donation bag is filled using a hose and bag system. The first 30 - 40 ml of donated blood are diverted into a satellite bag, from which the test tubes are filled. The advantage of the method is that the initial blood possibly contaminated with infectious agents from the donor's upper skin layers or sebum / sweat glands during venipuncture does not end up in the container.

Before the introduction of predonation sampling in 2003, appropriate test tubes were only filled after the bag for the actual blood donation .
