The Bild-Pokal is an international trotting race for older horses that has been held on the harness racing track in Gelsenkirchen since 1959 .
The name of the group race and the distance have changed over time. From 1959 to 1960 and from 1963 to 1976 it was called the Fastest Prize , and in 1961 and 1962 it was held as the “Grand Aviator Prize”. From 1977 the Bildzeitung got involved as a sponsor and the race was called “Goldenes Bild Hufeisen” from 1977 to 1988, before it was given the name “Bild-Pokal”, which is still valid today. The distance has been 1,609 meters (one English mile ) since 1985 and 2,000 meters from 2015. In the years 2002 to 2007 the race did not take place.
