Price for humanity

The price for Humanity of the Portuguese Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation (engl. Gulbenkian Prize for Humanity port. Prémio Gulbenkian para a Humanidade ) distinguishes persons, groups or organizations from around the world that a new, innovative and effective contribution to climate protection and - adaptation have done. It is awarded annually and is dedicated to Calouste Gulbenkian . With prize money of one million euros, it is one of the most highly endowed awards in the field of the climate crisis .

The first award took place in 2020. In the future, an annual award is planned.

In 2020, the award was lost to climate activist Greta Thunberg . The jury's justification was that they could make younger generations aware of the cause of climate change and mobilize their persistent struggle to change an ongoing status quo. Thunberg commented on the award as follows: “This is more money than I can imagine, but all of the award money will be donated through my foundation to various organizations and projects that support people on the front lines who are affected by the climate crisis and the ecological crisis are affected. "
