technology

PrestaShop administration area

PrestaShop is based on the PHP scripting language and uses the MySQL database system to store the data. It was designed to allow the separation of function and presentation. For this purpose, it uses templates based on Smarty , with the help of which the appearance can be easily changed. These can be freely offered by developers, or offered or purchased on the Prestashop add-on marketplace set up for this purpose.

Furthermore, the system is highly modular and therefore resource-efficient. Functions and extensions can therefore be added or removed by installing or uninstalling individual modules. Both the various payment methods and the shipping providers are integrated via modules.

history

Prestashop was originally started from November 2005 to February 2007 at Epitech , School of Computing, as a project of five young students. These were M. Morel, M. Saintot, M. Da-Silva, M. Borde and B. Lévêque. Igor Schlumberger from LeGuide was the supervisor of this project.

The original project, translated into two languages (French, English), was called phpopenstore (POS). The developers decided to implement the shop solution as an open source project right from the conception. It was developed practically in cooperation with several small dealers.

The company was founded Prestashop 2007 in Paris, France, by Igor Schlumberger and Bruno Lévêque (CEO).

PrestaShop's workforce grew from 17 employees to more than 100 between May 2010 and April 2012 with the establishment of a second office in Miami.

In March 2014 PrestaShop received a financing round of 9.3 million euros to accelerate its growth and drive internationalization.

PrestaShop cloud was taken in January 2015 in operation and is a self-hosted solution of open source - e-commerce platform.

According to the BuiltWith.com website, PrestaShop's market share among ecommerce sites using open source is 20%.

PrestaShop has been translated into over 60 languages. Including: Arabic, Argentinian, Bulgarian, Chinese, Danish, German, English, Estonian, Finnish, French, Galician, Georgian, Greek, Hebrew, Indonesian, Italian, Catalan, Latvian, Lithuanian, Dutch, Norwegian, Persian, Polish, Portuguese, Portuguese-Brazilian, Romanian, Russian, Swedish, Slovak, Spanish, Thaï, Czech, Turkish, Ukrainian, Hungarian and Vietnamese.

Requirements of German law

GermaNext

GermaNext is a module for PrestaShop that represents a complete German translation of the shop system. In addition, the standard installation will be expanded to comply with German laws and regulations. The module is being developed by the agency Silbersaiten . In the past, this module was only available for a fee, but now there is also a free community edition that dispenses with convenience functions such as an installation routine. GermaNext is already largely prepared for certification by Trusted Shops .

German Edition (up to version 1.3.7)

PrestaShop in its standard version does not support all the requirements of German law, for example there is no support for the cancellation policy. These loopholes were partially closed up to the version by the German community called German Edition. However, this is no longer developed from version 1.3.7.

From version 1.6.0

GermaNext and GC German have currently agreed to jointly launch a module on the German market that caters to the special needs of German shop operators.

From version 1.6.1

Starting with this version, PrestaShop SA offers its own solution to meet the legal requirements of the German market.
