Principle of the public benefit

In economics, the principle of public benefit describes a general duty to perform social tasks and to be sustainable .

In market economy systems , the principle of public utility is one of the constitutive characteristics of public companies and administrations, alongside the organ principle and the principle of common property .

The promotion of charitable purposes is tax- privileged in Germany ( Section 52 AO ).

Its counterpart is the commercial principle (striving for profit maximization).
