Pripps Blå is a Swedish beer that was launched in 1959 and is now part of the Carlsberg Group's product range . It was initially called "Pripps Export" because it is known as "Starkbier" (Swedish: "starköl") with an alcohol content of up to 5.2% in Sweden, which until 1955 was only allowed to be produced for export . It was not until the vernacular that the beer got its current name, inspired by the typical blue label with the horizon line between sky and sea and the sailing ship, which is supposed to remind of the origin of the shipping city Gothenburg .

Pripps Blå is offered in variants with different alcohol contents: 2.2%, 2.8%, 3.5%, 5.0% and 5.2%. In Sweden this beer is most commonly drunk in the light version.

In 1990 Pripps Blå 3.5 was named the world's best lager in its strength class at the Brewing Industry International Awards .
