The private pilot license helicopter (PPL H) is the license required in the European Union to drive helicopters .

requirement

At the beginning of the training to become a private helicopter pilot, the applicant must be at least 16 years of age and at the time of obtaining the pilot's license must be 17 years of age. For this purpose, the applicant must present his or her birth certificate or an extract from the family book. Candidates must be considered harmless, which is why they must not have any entries in the police clearance certificate (O or P) and no serious entries in the central traffic register. Furthermore, every candidate must pass the background check. The applicant must also meet certain medical requirements; A candidate must receive the aeronautical medical certificate (class 1 or 2) and show evidence of knowledge of first aid or immediate measures, which must not be older than 2 years.

The lessons include approximately 80 hours in the subjects of aviation law, navigation, meteorology, aerodynamics, general aviation knowledge, flight performance and flight planning, radio communications, general flight safety, flight operations procedures and human performance.

Before the practical test, the examinee must have spent at least 35 hours with an authorized instructor and 10 hours in a solo flight. Test subjects who are already flight pilots can count towards 10% of their flight time, but not more than 6 hours.

Validity and scope

The license entitles:

in non-commercial air traffic to a non-commercial and non-professional activity as a responsible or second helicopter pilot on helicopters of the type entered in the pilot's license for flights during the day. The night flight qualification must be acquired in order to conduct visual flights at night. The earliest possible acquisition of the night flight qualification is with proof of 100 helicopter hours after acquiring the license.

In non-commercial aviation to a professional activity as a responsible helicopter pilot on helicopters of the type registered in the pilot's license, limited to the training of private helicopter pilots within the Federal Republic of Germany. To exercise this right, the teaching license must be registered.
