ProFans is an independent, nationwide alliance of active fan and ultra groups in Germany. Currently (as of January 2013) around 48 groups from all parts of the country are involved with ProFans. ProFans emerged from the predecessor alliance “Pro 15:30”, which was launched in 2001 and which primarily addressed the topic of kick-off times that were appropriate for the catch.

Self-image

ProFans sees itself as a nationwide representation of interests for active fan and ultra groups and their concerns in Germany. The primary goal of the joint work is the commitment “To preserve the fan culture”. ProFans primarily serves as:

  • Exchange forum about the (current) situations in the fan and ultra scenes at the various locations
  • Platform for the organization and coordination of joint, cross-fan scene actions in and outside the stadiums
  • Continuous representation of the active fan scene in dialogue with the football associations (e.g. in the AG Fan Matters & Fan Work at the DFB)
  • Cross-fan scene mouthpiece in the media (coordinated, awareness-raising public relations work)

ProFans works exclusively on a voluntary basis and is financed through donations from the groups involved. Especially due to attempts by neo-Nazis to exert influence on the active fan scenes, ProFans expressly emphasizes the basic anti-racist consensus agreed by all groups involved.

Guideline

The so-called “8-point plan”, which was decided at a meeting of the groups affiliated with ProFans in Hanover in 2009, serves as a guideline for fan political work. Fixed position papers also exist on relevant fan-political issues. Special topics are, for example, the debate about “kick-off times”, “stadium bans”, the “file for violent offenders sports”, “behavior in police custody” or the “excessive commercialization of football”.

Fan political network

ProFans endeavors to maintain a direct exchange with other (voluntary) fan politically active organizations / alliances and groups. The prerequisite for direct cooperation is the fundamental agreement in the self-image of ProFans and the objectives (guidelines) in the individual topics. ProFans is in constant contact with Our Curve (UK) , Alliance of Active Football Fans (BAFF) , Kein Zwanni für'n Steher , Fan Rights Fund , Network Women in Football , Queer Football Fan Club (QFF) . There are also connections to temporary action alliances such as "Legalize Pyrotechnics - Respect Emotions".

ProFans represents a wide range of fan political issues. A stronger network with other alliance partners is one of the goals of ProFans. Avoiding parallel structures and the associated weakening of those active in fan politics is another field of activity of the organization in terms of the commitment to preserving fan culture.

In addition to the dialogue with the football associations, there is also a lively exchange with other important official participants in the discourse on the subject of fan culture: Coordination Office for Fan Projects (KOS); Federal Association of Fan Projects (BAG); Working group fan attorneys; SLO spokesman; individual scientists and politicians.

In October 2015, ProFans and other fan organizations left the DFB working group set up for dialogue and did not return after its reorganization, questioning the sense of a fan dialogue that was perceived as not being conducted seriously and result-oriented by the DFB. Since then, ProFans has tried more and more to promote fan interests through the influence of members in their clubs and through public relations work.
