Product change notification

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A Product Change Notification ( PCN ; German  " product change notification " ) is information from a manufacturer about technical changes to a product to its customers. This informs them of upcoming changes or changes that have already been made. Whether and to what extent customers must be informed is usually stipulated in the contract.

Examples of such changes can be:

  • Relocation of production between different plants (e.g. of semiconductors )
  • Conversion of production processes
  • Changes to the composition or recipe (e.g. no lead in electronic components)
  • Discontinuation of products with reference to a successor product
  • Discontinuation of products

A PCN that is sent to the customer before a pending change can give the customer the opportunity to respond accordingly. In many cases the customer will (have to) incorporate the changes in his products via change management . Other alternatives are e.g. B. contradicting the change or creating a supply that covers the remaining total requirements.
