Project Athena (Intel)

The Athena project, announced in mid-2019, represents Intel's successor project of the ultrabooks . The first devices in the Athena class are expected in early 2020.

Objectives of the Athena project

The guidelines for Ultrabooks , which were introduced in 2011, are out of date as of 2019. So mainly Intel is updating the minimum requirements for OEM manufacturers in order to be able to advertise with an Athena certification. These have been divided into three categories by Intel:

Focused (Focus)

Always ready

  • 16 or more hours of offline video playback (at 150 nit screen brightness)
  • 9 or more hours of wireless Internet surfing (with 250 nit screen brightness)
  • 4 hours of battery life should be achieved in less than 30 minutes of charging time when switched off (see also Quick Charge )
  • W-LAN with 6 Gbit / s or more

Adaptive

  • voice control
  • WinML support
  • OpenVINO AI
  • Ultra-slim 2-in-1 housing
  • Touchscreen with additional pen input
  • Illuminated keyboards
  • 12 to 15 inch screen diagonal with at least 1080p resolution
