Priroda project

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Priroda ( Russian Природа for nature ) is the name of the flight project of the western group of Soviet forces within their zone of occupation .

The purpose of the project was to update the existing topographic maps. The approximately 11,000 aerial photos flown in 1953 have an average scale of 1: 22,000, taken by a Carl Zeiss RMK camera in the 30 × 30 cm format. The area of the Soviet occupation zone, apart from the border areas with the FRG, was stereoscopically recorded almost completely. The aerial photographs from this flight are particularly qualitative in comparison with so-called war aerial photographs of the former German Air Force .

Similar systematic projects can also be found among the Western Allies. B. Casey Jones project of the US Air Force .

Copies of the Priroda flights are partially available to the state survey offices of the federal states of Brandenburg, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia. The original negatives of the entire flight are still in the possession of the aerial photo database Dr. Carls.
