Promotionen is a waltz by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 221). The work was performed for the first time on February 8, 1859 in the Solfienbad Hall in Vienna.

Remarks

The waltz was composed for the law students' ball at Vienna University and premiered there. The name doctorates is derived from the award of a doctorate (also for lawyers). But the success of the work was manageable. With this work Strauss did not create the cheerful music that the audience wanted. The general mood of the work is rather gloomy and gloomy. For this reason, the work soon disappeared from the archives and was subsequently only played very rarely, if at all.

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 13 minutes and 36 seconds. Depending on the musical conception of the conductor, this time can change by up to a minute plus or minus.
