Propsthof

The former Propsthof in Friesach was owned by the Thannhausen family until it was sold to the Bürgerspital in 1595 and was transferred to the St. Bartlmä Collegiate Foundation in 1653 .

description

The Propsthof is an irregularly square building from the 15th century with an arcade courtyard and hipped roof . In 1777 the building was rebuilt and the facade redesigned according to plans by Mathias Melluschnig. The core building from the end of the 15th century consists of the three-storey south and east wings as well as the south basement, a room with a support above the tower base from the first half of the 13th century. The north and west wings were probably built in 1653. Jewish tombstones are used as floor slabs in the basement. The three-storey pillar arcades from the 17th century on the south and east sides of the courtyard were glazed in the 19th century. The outer facades are structured vertically by pilaster strips and horizontally by the high plinth zone and a metope frieze under the wide eaves. There is a basket arch portal on the north side.
