Proteus is a software package for the computer-aided design, simulation and design of electronic circuits. It consists of two main parts, the ISIS , the circuit design environment, which also includes the VSM simulator , and the ARES , the printed circuit board designer. The developer and manufacturer of the software package is Labcenter Electronics.

Proteus PCB design

With Proteus PCB design electronic circuits and printed circuit boards can (engl. P rinted c ircuit b oards) computer aided be designed.

ISIS (Intelligent Schematic Input System)

The ISIS, I ntelligent S Chematic I nput S ystem ( Intelligent Switching entry system ) is the environment for the design and simulation of electronic circuits.

The component library includes according to its own information

über 10.000 Schaltungskomponenten mit 6000 ProSPICE-Simulationsmodellen. Eigene Bauteile können erstellt und der Bibliothek hinzugefügt werden.

ISIS contains a basic VSM engine with support for the following functionalities:

  • DC / AC voltmeters & ammeters, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers
  • Analog signal generators, digital pattern generator
  • Timer functions, protocol analyzers (including RS232, I2C, SPI)

VSM (Virtual System Modeling)

The VSM, V irtual S ystem M odeling ( Virtual System Modeling ), enables graphic SPICE circuit simulation and animation directly in the ISIS environment. The SPICE simulator is based on the Berkeley SPICE3F5 model.

Microprocessor-oriented systems can be simulated. The VSM engine can be used to interact directly with the circuit during the simulation. Changes to buttons, switches or potentiometers are queried in real time and LED indicators, LC displays and "hot / cold" wires are displayed.

Proteus VSM for microcontrollers

  • PIC12 / PIC16 / PIC18
  • PIC24 / PIC33
  • HC11
  • 8051/8052
  • BASIC Stamp
  • ATMEL AVR
  • 8086
  • MSP430

The microcontrollers are (with a few exceptions that are explicitly mentioned in the instructions) fully supported in the periphery and in the code (interrupt, ADC, I2C, USB, comparators, etc.). It contains a debug environment for the program code of the microcontroller. The .HEX and .COF files of the compiled software are required for the simulation. The clock is simulated in real time.

Proteus VSM Advanced Simulation

  • Generation of frequency responses
  • Analog and digital transient analyzes
  • Analysis of the analog behavior of digital sources
  • Analysis of the noise behavior
  • Generation of user-defined signal curves using the EasyHDL Scripting Language
  • Display in amount and phase in dB or linear
  • Audio analysis of signal curves, exportable in WAV
  • Measurement reading supported by graphic cursor

Proteus VSM USB simulation

  • Debug USB applications with support for USB device classes
  • Mass Storage Device Class (MSD)
  • Human Interface Device Class (HID)
  • Communications Device Class (CDC)
  • USB Transaction Analyzer
  • Representation of the USB packages

ARES (Advanced Routing and Editing Software)

The ARES, A dvanced R outing and E diting S oftware ( Higher routing and editing system ) is a software for PCB design. It can be operated via drag & drop, hardware-accelerated and allows "shape-based" autorouting and autoplacement. In some versions, the 3D circuit can be exported to .DXF files.
