Protocol element

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A network protocol consists of two to three protocol elements . These elements are mostly:

  • Header : control information and processing options,
  • Data part: user data that the protocol carries with it, and
  • Trailer (tail): error-checking measures that are usually already included in the header → therefore only optional.

As an example, the MAC addresses are entered in the Ethernet in the header and the CRC field in the trailer .
