Psalter of Louis the German
The Psalter Louis the German is a Carolingian illuminated manuscript that was created in the second quarter of the 9th century in the monastery of Saint-Omer on behalf of King Ludwig. This is identified with Ludwig the German (843–876).
The book decoration of the Psalter is strongly influenced by the insular book illumination and thus an early representative of the so-called Franco-Saxon school , which developed in today's northern France and clearly differed from the courtly Carolingian book illumination.
The codex comprises 120 sheets of parchment , its format is 294 × 246 mm. Today it is in the Berlin State Library (Ms. theol. Latin fol. 58).
