A pseudopolyp is a swelling of the mucous membrane that often occurs in chronic inflammatory bowel diseases ( IBD ), such as ulcerative colitis . The pseudo - prefix comes from the fact that this is not a polyp with new tissue formation ( neoplasia ).

The pseudopolyp is also known as a hyperplastic, inflammatory or regenerative polyp .
