Pseudo substrate sequence

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A pseudosubstrate sequence is a peptide sequence within a protein that can bind to the catalytic center of an enzyme and thus block it.

This comes u. a. with the enzyme protein kinase C , which consists of a regulatory and a catalytic domain. The regulatory domain has a pseudo-substrate sequence and blocks the catalytic subunit. In the course of signal transduction , this can be bound by diacylglyceride (DAG), calcium ions and phospholipids and thus removed from the catalytic subunit of the enzyme.
