The Partido Independentista Puertorriqueño (PIP) ( German : Puerto Rican Independence Party ; English : Puerto Rican Independence Party ) is a social democratic political party in Puerto Rico that campaigns for the independence of the US territory from the United States .

The party was founded on October 20, 1946 , making it the second oldest party in the island state. Its chairman is Rubén Berríos Martínez . The PIP is a member of the Socialist International and is currently (last election 2004) represented by one member each in the Senate and in the House of Representatives in Puerto Rico.
