Pukará de Lasana

The Pukará de Lasana is a historic residence and refuge of the Atacameños ten kilometers north of Chiu-Chiu , on the upper reaches of the Río Loa , in the municipality of Calama , Chile .

It is believed that the pukará was designed for 500 people. Inside an enclosure there were houses and silos for food. Materials available in the area were used for construction. Masonry was built with unprocessed rubble stones and clay. The roof structures were made of wood from Kaktus, Algarrobo or Chañar. Clay served as the roof covering. The paths in the system are serpentine in order to make it difficult to penetrate quickly.
