Pumpkin (cat)
Pumpkin ( Engl. Pumpkin ) (born 2001) is a cat from the UK. She became known when she played Hermione's Crookshanks cat in the Harry Potter film series .
Life
Pumpkin is a red and orange Persian cat and came from a British animal shelter. She was cast as Crookshanks by the producers of the Harry Potter film series. In the film, she plays a hybrid of a so-called “kneazle” and a house cat with a lion-like appearance. She shared her role with another Persian named Crackerjack. She was trained and prepared for filming for several months by owner Donna McCormick-Smith. In order to create the characteristic appearance of Crookshanks, both cats were combed and the hair combed out was reattached to them.
She first appeared in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004) and returned in parts Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005) and Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007). After her last appearance, she moved to the Isle of Man with her mistress .
A postage stamp was dedicated to her in the Republic of China when a number of Harry Potter stamp sets featuring different characters from the films were released there.
