Qrio
Qrio ( " Q uest for Cu rio sity") was a 58 centimeters high and seven kilograms heavier, humanoid robots by Sony . First presented in 2000 under the name SDR-3X and replaced in 2002 by the successor SDR-4X , it was viewed as a further “experiment” by Sony's robot dog Aibo (1999).
QRIO was the first humanoid robot that was able to run, i.e. get both feet off the ground at the same time. However, compared to humans, it was only able to do this for a very short time (40 ms vs. ~ 1 s). His top speed during the race was 13.72 meters per minute (0.8 km / h).
QRIO's other talents also included jumping, climbing stairs, playing soccer, reading stories, singing, dancing and much more. He was able to recognize language and faces to a limited extent and had a Japanese vocabulary of around 60,000 words, which enabled him to have small conversations.
When Aibo was discontinued in 2006, Sony announced that it would stop developing QRIO. The technology developed for both projects should, however, be incorporated into future, as yet unannounced Sony projects.
