The quadrantanopia is a special form of visual field . Affected patients usually suffer this form of anopia after a stroke or an accident with traumatic brain injury .
In this form, an upper or lower area (usually a quarter = quadrant) of the visual field is missing on one or both eyes. For example, the patients do not recognize a quarter of an image section. A quadrant anopia can occur with or without a central scotoma.
It may be associated with a visual radiation lesion. When Meyer's loop is damaged, the visual field defect is above; when the parietal path is damaged, the failure is below.
