Quadrireme

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The quadrireme even Tetrere or four rowers called, was a rowing warship of antiquity, in which four rowers formed a unity. It is said to have been used by the Carthaginians in the 4th century BC. Have been developed.

On how many levels of belts , the rowers distributed, is controversial in research. There is some evidence that most quadriremes had two oars, each with two oars. However, there also seem to have been isolated four-row ships, as illustrated by the illustrations.
Pliny the Elder investigated the eruption of Vesuvius on board a Quadrireme, where he eventually perished.
