Quality indicator

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A quality indicator is a quantitative measure that can be used to monitor and assess the quality of important leadership, management and support functions that affect a result ( service process or production process ). An indicator is not a direct measure of quality. It is more of a tool that can be used to assess performance, which can draw attention to potential problem areas that may require intensive review within an organization. The recorded measured values can move within or outside a reference range or exceed or fall below a reference value . The term key figure is often used synonymously with the term quality indicator .

Medical quality indicators (= clinical metrics) measure properties of health care (e.g. of structures, processes and results) that are to be assessed as part of quality management .

In Germany and Switzerland there are now extensive programs to assess the quality of medical care based on quality indicators (e.g. from the AQUA Institute in Göttingen and the health care research institute AG in Zurich). The BQS has to Qualify developed a tool with which the quality can be determined by quality indicators with scientific methodology.
