Quartet

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Quartet is Verslehre generally a four-line verse form . The term is specific for the first two stanzas in the classical sonnet .

In the classical form of the sonnet, the quartets have the same rhymes ( rhyme scheme [abba abba]), in the German sonnet of the 20th century, the quartets usually only rhyme in themselves ([abba cddc]).

In the sonnet, the inner structure ideally corresponds to the outer form, whereby the quartets, for example, form an exciting counterpart, in which the thesis in the first quartet is juxtaposed with the antithesis in the second quartet.

For the general four-line stanzas and poems, see the quatrain .
