Quincussis

The quincussis (lat. Quinque, dt. Five) is the modern name for a cast bronze coin that was minted during the Roman Republic . This coin is worth five aces . The ancient name of this coin has not been preserved.

The quincussis probably never played a role in Roman monetary policy and was replaced by the denarius shortly after it was issued . It was introduced at the same time as the Decussis at the end of the heavy money period. So far only one type of this coin has been discovered, which dates back to around the year 215 BC. Chr. Dated, found. Only one specimen of this type has been found to date. The head of the goddess Roma is depicted on the obverse , above it is the value V (the Roman name for the number five). On the lapel there is a left-facing prora with the stamp above it.
