Five years

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A five year period is a period of five years .

The term is an archaism and, in contrast to terms like decade or century, is rarely used today. Today it is mainly used in relation to the near past, for example to emphasize particularly short but important periods of time.

A historical term for a five-year period is "quinquennium". The term Lustrum - actually a sacrificial ritual in the ancient Roman religion , which was repeated every five years - was also a synonym for five years in the linguistic usage at the time.
