Quintan dummy

The name Quintana comes from the fifth camp route of Roman camps , on which daily exercises with the lance were held. The soldiers ran into a dummy soldier and tried to pierce a ring with a lance that was hanging on one arm. This forms the basis for the name of some medieval tournaments in lancing , Italian "Giostra della Quintana". With the Reiter-Quintana, a lance is aimed at the shield of the armored dummy (Quintan), in northern Germany also Roland riding . Hence the name rotating Roland .
