activities

The organization formulates its goals as follows:

"Quito Eterno is a civil society organization which, on the basis of artistic and educational activities, creates learning processes and strategies in the field of cultural education in order to promote interest in Ecuadorian culture and to strengthen the community of citizens."

In connection with the work of the organization, reference should be made to the colonial history of Ecuador, which makes it difficult for many citizens to identify themselves due to the mixing of several cultures (see: Mestizos , History of Ecuador ).

Quito Eterno is best known in the historical center of Quito for the theatrical development of historical personalities of the city (e.g. Eugenio Espejo , Manuela Sáenz ). In the so-called Rutas de Leyenda (German: Paths of Legends), in which students from Ecuador, especially from Quito, usually take part, the respective personality leads their group to historically and culturally significant locations in the old town - such as churches, Museums and squares - and presents the history of these places and the people who lived there through acting. To date, more than 100,000 school children have taken part in the tours.

To realize its activities, the organization cooperates with the majority of the museums, monasteries and churches in the historic center of Quito. In addition, the organization receives support from various historians and scholars in research that deals with the cultural history of Ecuador. Furthermore, Quito Eterno has been in an alliance with the Quitos city administration since 2010, from which various joint projects have already emerged, including the Noches Patrimoniales that takes place every Saturday .

Quito Eterno's various activities and programs are based on the following ideas:

  • Promotion and development of an alternative educational path for the interpretation and preservation of the Ecuadorian culture
  • Expansion of the education system in the fields of history, culture, art
  • Suggestion for more active engagement of the citizens in communal projects
  • Promotion of tolerance regarding the ethnic and cultural diversity existing in the city

The Rutas de Leyenda , which usually take place in the morning, also offers the organization in a special version for adults at night. Quito Eterno's program also includes theater performances, workshops on local culture and the publication of books. The organization also regularly looks after foreign volunteer groups and offers logistical, educational and intercultural support.
