Quodlibet (disambiguation)

Quodlibet ( lat. "What is popular") means:

  • a piece of music in which two or more independent songs (or parts of songs) sound at the same time, see Quodlibet ;
  • a musical form of the old Viennese folk theater, see Quodlibet (old Viennese folk theater) ;
  • a fallacy in classical logic, see Ex falso quodlibet ;
  • in painting, graphic works in which the things depicted are designed so naturalistically that the impression is created that they are real objects, see Trompe-l'œil ;
  • a discussion in a small group or at universities ("disputatio de quodlibet"): a selected candidate had to answer questions directed at him on a specific topic as quickly as possible without preparation. The spontaneity often results in comical statements to the general amusement;
  • in philosophy for some scholastics a treatise with mixed contents, which mostly consisted of questions and answers in the manner of the catechism (quaestiones et responsiones quodlibeticae), see Quodlibeta ;
