Quod Libet is a graphical audio player for Linux that can manage and play music files, internet radio and audio feeds. Quod Libet is based on the GStreamer multimedia system and was written as free software using Python and GTK + . It is particularly important to him to give the user the greatest possible freedom and flexibility in accessing his media library; the name ( lat. quod libet = what is popular) is derived from this.
description
Basic functions
Quod Libet allows you to freely define a playlist using a regular expression and to query the content of any metadata tags. It is optimized with regard to scalability, so that there are no problems even when operating with several thousand pieces of music.
Quod Libet uses the GStreamer library to play audio files and streams. Which audio formats are supported depends on the Gstreamer plugins installed in the system. The scope of delivery of the popular distributions usually includes the free formats Ogg Vorbis , Opus and the lossless FLAC . If the modules for partly proprietary formats are available, Quod Libet offers full support for MP3 , MP4-AAC , Musepack , SPC , True Audio , WAV , WavPack , Windows Media Audio , Speex and tracker modules .
particularities
Special features of Quod Libet are the support of the automatic volume control Replay Gain , a metadata editor that is not limited to predefined tags, the exact observation of format standards and a large selection of plug-in extensions such as iPod and audio scrobbler support or the lookup function for Wikipedia. It also offers an album mode, an iTunes-like filter view, a functional search mask, a file tree view and more.
From version 2.2, Quod Libet and the supplementary metadata editor Ex Falso can also run under Windows . The names of the two programs together result in the Latin principle ex falso quodlibet of two-valued logic.
