Knurled washer

A knurled washer is a tool or aid in the manual production of structural ceramics , e.g. B. in bead technology , as well as when painting and attaching decorations to ceramic objects.

The name comes from the fact that such disks were initially used to apply colored border decorations or gold borders.

The edge washer consists of a circular metal plate, which is rotatably mounted on a metal foot. Unlike a potter's wheel , knurling wheels are not driven electrically or mechanically, but are moved by hand. Circular grooves on the surface of the disc allow the workpiece to be centered. By turning the disc, the object can easily be edited from all sides. Edge washers exist in different heights, sizes and designs. As a rule, the panes and feet are made of rustproof metal (e.g. aluminum or die-cast zinc). Precise and easy rotation facilitates working with the edge washer. The heavier the edging washer, the more stable it is, so that the heavier possible edging washer is used, especially for large or tall objects. Special versions of ring washers also allow oval, triangular or square running.
