Río San Juan (Dominican Republic)

Río San Juan is a place on the north coast of the Dominican Republic in the province of María Trinidad Sánchez . It is located on the coastal road from Puerto Plata to Nagua .

The tourist attractions are the Laguna Gri-Gri and the beaches of Playa Caletón and Playa Grande not far from Río San Juan to the east and Bahía Esmeralda and Playa Ermita to the west.

The poorer districts of Río San Juan, inhabited by the Dominican population and not developed for tourism, sometimes have ironic names such as Nueva York Chiquito, El Bronx, Acapulco, Buenos Aires and Vietnam.

The Carnival of Río San Juan is called Carnaverengue - a combination of the words Carnaval and Merengue .
