Retention sample

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A reserve sample is a sample stored in environmental analysis for possible later tests or repeated measurements , which is taken from the researched substance.

Food

For foods that contain raw chicken egg ingredients that are not subsequently heated and that exceed a quantity of more than 30 servings, a reference sample must be kept in accordance with Section 20a of the Tier-LMHV, the Chicken Egg Ordinance and DIN 10526.

Sewage technology

In the self-monitoring process, the dischargers are obliged to continuously take reserve samples from the sewage treatment plant . This has the advantage for the operator of being able to provide better evidence of the pollutant load actually introduced and to protect himself from unjustified accusations. For example, the self-monitoring ordinance in Bavaria stipulates the daily taking of a reserve sample for all systems from 20,000 PE, which must be kept refrigerated for at least seven days.

An automatic sampler takes mixed samples with the same quantities every two hours for 24 hours. The samples are mixed in a container to form a 24 hour sample. One liter from this mixing container is filled into a glass bottle and sealed. The sample must be labeled (with the name of the system as well as the point, date and time). The glass bottle is then placed in the refrigerator and stored there for at least seven days (the storage time is determined differently in the federal states) at a storage temperature of no more than +5 ° C. If there were no malfunctions or unusual occurrences in the sewage treatment plant operation during the specified storage period, the contents of the bottle can be disposed of.
