The units of the 599 series are diesel multiple units of the Spanish state railways Renfe for regional traffic.

The vehicles come from the rail vehicle manufacturer CAF, which is also from Spain . The units consisting of three cars (two end cars and one middle car) connected to one another by closed car crossings, which are comparatively fast diesel railcars with a permissible speed of 160 km / h, were designed for use on non-electrified lines in the Spanish and Portuguese broad-gauge network as a replacement for procured the railcars of the series 592, 593 and 594; a re-gauging device was not installed. As with all newer Renfe locomotives, a change of gauge to the standard gauge is prepared by design. Constructive similarities exist with the electric multiple units of the series 449, however these run on Jakobs bogies , while the units of the series 599 were equipped with regular bogies with regard to the installation of the drive systems.

The trains, which have 187 seats, are used today on various routes within Spain. There are three bicycle parking spaces in the middle car and toilets on board. The intermediate car is barrier-free with the car floor lowered between the bogies, this also applies to the toilet in this car.
