Rengo

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Rengo is a go version for four people. It is played in turn, with the two players sitting opposite each other playing the same color. It is forbidden for partners to give each other tips. Otherwise the usual Go rules apply . For couples go, it is also required that a team must consist of a man and a woman.

Tournaments

There are national, continental and worldwide couple-go championships for amateurs. Pair-Go is also often played at larger Go tournaments.

The European Couple Go Championship has been held since 1997.

Playing technique

Since the partners are not allowed to give each other tips, it is necessary to play in such a way that the partner can "read" their own moves. This is a challenge, especially for the stronger partner of the couple, if the playing strengths are unequal. Without unnecessarily restricting the repertoire of playful means, he must avoid that the partner is faced with risky decisions that overwhelm him.
