RGO (hand grenade)
The RGO hand grenade (Rutschnaja Granata Oboronitel'naja, Russian Ручная граната оборонительная ) is a fragmentation hand grenade developed by the Soviet Union, intended for defensive use from trenches or other covered positions , for example . It is very similar to the RGN hand grenade for offensive use.
The hand grenade has a double-layer aluminum or steel body, which is provided with predetermined breaking points for the formation of splinters. The UDZS double-function igniter is used as the igniter, which triggers an ignition on impact as well as after a factory-set time. The percussion fuse detonates after a delay of 1 to 1.8 seconds. If the impact detonator does not detonate the grenade after 3.2 to 4.2 seconds, the time detonator triggers the detonation of the grenade. The fragments resulting from the detonation are lethal within a radius of 6 to 20 m, the safety radius is 100 m.
The grenade is made in Russia and Ukraine and is used in the armies of some countries. In addition to the normal RGO, there is the slightly lighter (450 g) RGO-78 hand grenade filled with 85 g of TNT, which is similar to the RGD-5 assault hand grenade . For training purposes, there is also the RGO-1M variant, which simulates the weight, handling and explosion noise of the RGO-78, but remains without splintering and explosion effects.
