Raúl Isiordia (born December 22, 1952 in Tepic , Nayarit ), also known by the nickname Cora (after an ethnic group living in the east of the state of Nayarit ), is a former Mexican football player who was mostly used in midfield .
Life
Isiordia received his first professional contract for the 1973/74 season with the Necaxa successor club Atlético Español, where he initially did not make his first professional appearance as in the 1974/75 season in the service of Club Social y Deportivo Jalisco . When he was under contract with Atlético Español for a second time between 1975 and 1978, he achieved his breakthrough and the leap into the national team , in whose ranks he made his debut on February 1, 1977 in a game against Yugoslavia, which the Mexicans with 5 : 1 decided in their favor and in which he immediately scored his first international goal. Just a few months later, on June 14, 1977, he scored his second international goal in a test match against Germany, which ended 2-2 and in which he scored the opening goal to 1-0 against Sepp Maier in the 18th minute .
He achieved two more international goals on October 15, 1977 in a World Cup qualifier against Surinam, which was won 8-1.
At the subsequent World Cup in 1978 he played the Mexicans' first game against Tunisia, which was surprisingly lost 3-1 and ended as disappointingly as the other two World Cup games by "El Tri".
After the World Cup, Isiordia moved to CF Monterrey , where he was under contract until 1980. About the Tecos de la UAG , for which he played the next two years, he came to the Tigres de la UANL in 1982 . He then ended his active career at the end of the 1983/84 season in the service of Deportivo Neza . His last international match was on December 18, 1979 against El Salvador (1-1).
After his active career, he worked as a sports director at both CF Monterrey and its arch-rival Tigres de la UANL. Most recently, he worked for third division club Vaqueros de Reynosa.
