Rainer Mennicken
Rainer Mennicken (born June 12, 1950 in Bielefeld ) is a German dramaturge, author, director and theater director.
Life
Rainer Mennicken grew up in Dortmund. After five semesters of German studies, philosophy and theater history at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum as well as some internships and assistants, he got his first engagement as a dramaturge at the Dortmund Theater in 1974 . This was followed by positions as dramaturge, director and festival director in Paderborn, Mannheim, Tübingen, Freiburg, Kassel and Frankfurt. In 1991 in Bonn he organized the Bonn Biennale , conceived by Manfred Beilharz , a festival for new pieces from Europe.
From 1993 he was director of the Konstanz City Theater , where he initiated other festivals and a city cultural festival. In 2001 he became general director at the Oldenburg State Theater . From 2006 to 2016 he was the artistic director of the Linz State Theater in Upper Austria. Here he was significantly involved in the design and usage issues of the new music theater opened in 2013 at the Volksgarten, founded a musical division and increasingly appeared as an opera director.
Mennicken is a member of the Federal Republican Center of the International Theater Institute and the German Academy of Performing Arts. He participated in the jury work for the Mülheim Dramatist Prize, the Premio Stregagatto in Rome, the Bavarian Theater Days and the Competizione dell 'Opera in Linz, among others.
Awards
In 2006 Rainer Mennicken was awarded the University Medal of the Carl von Ossietzky University in Oldenburg, also in 2006 with the Ring of Honor of the Oldenburg Landscape, and in 2008 with the Humoresken Mostdipf Prize of the Upper Austrian News. In 2013 he received the culture medal of the state of Upper Austria for his services to the establishment of the music theater in Linz, and in 2016 the golden mark of merit of the state of Upper Austria. He is an honorary member of the Friends of Linz Music Theater Association and has received the Great Decoration of Honor from the Upper Austria Amateur Theater Association.
