Rakhi Sawant

Rakhi Sawant (* 25. November 1978 in Bombay as Neeru Sawant ) is an Indian actress, dancer and politician.

Sawant founded her own political party, the Rashtriya Aam Party, to contest the 2014 Lok Sabha election. After the election, she joined the Republican Party of India. Rakhi Sawant has often been in the news for her actions and statements, which are considered controversial in the Indian context.

Life

Rakhi Sawant was born as Neeru Bheda to Jaya Bheda. Jaya married Anand Sawant, a police officer from the Worli Police Station, and gave the children from her first marriage the name of her second husband. She is the sister of director Rakesh Sawant and former actress Usha Sawant.

She made her film debut in Agnichakr under the name Ruhi Sawant. She moved on to other small roles and dance numbers in the low budget Bollywood films Joru Ka Ghulam, Jis Desh Mein Ganga Rehta Hain, and Yeh Raaste Hain Pyaar Ke.

Rakhi Sawant appears on Nach Baliye 3 in Madhuri Dixit's famous guise. In 2003 she auditioned for a number in Bollywood films, Chura Liyaa Hai Tumne. She auditioned approximately four times before being selected for her groundbreaking item number, "Mohabbat Hai Mirchi," composed by Himesh Reshammiya. In 2005 she appeared in the music video "Pardesiya" from the music album DJ Hot Remix - Vol. 3.

In June 2006, Mika Singh tried to kiss her at his birthday party, which sparked a media controversy. A few months later, she appeared on the first season of the reality show Bigg Boss and was among the top four finalists.

In 2007, Rakhi made her singing debut on the album Super Girl from Venus Records & Tapes Pvt. In 2009, Sawant started the reality show Rakhi Ka Swayamwar, in which she planned to choose her future husband according to the ancient ritual of Swayamvar. On August 2, 2009, she chose her life partner, a Toronto, Canada participant, Elesh Parujanwala. But a few months later, Sawant announced that the couple had split up due to irreconcilable differences.

In 2012 she made a comedy with Shahrukh Khan and Ranbir Kapoor at the 57th Filmfare Awards and appeared in Malaysia with Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor in 2015.

On April 4, 2017, Punjab police arrested her for remarks about Rishi Valmiki.
