Ralph Connor (chemist)

Ralph Connor (born July 12, 1907 , † May 1, 1990 in Sun City , Arizona ) was an American chemist ( organic chemistry ).

Connor received his doctorate in 1932 from the University of Wisconsin, Madison with Homer B. Adkins (The hydrogenolysis of organic compounds). With Adkins he introduced the name hydrogenolysis for the carbon-oxygen bond. He was a professor at the University of Pennsylvania and during World War II department head of the National Defense Research Committee. Then he was research director and chairman of the board at Rohm and Haas.

He dealt with organic chemistry, catalysis, explosives, synthesis and reaction mechanisms.

In 1967 he received the Priestley Medal and the American Institute of Chemists Gold Medal (1963) and the Chemical Industry Medal.
