Priestley Medal

The Priestley Medal (English Priestley Medal ) is the highest award of the American Chemical Society (ACS). The honor, named after the English-American chemist Joseph Priestley (1733–1804), was established in 1922 for excellent achievements in the field of chemistry . It was awarded every three years from 1923 to 1944, and has been awarded annually since 1944. The award is not linked to membership of the American Chemical Society or American citizenship. In addition to the gold medal, the award winner receives a box and a certificate. It is not possible to award multiple awards to one award winner.

Francis P. Garvan is the only non-scientist to have received the medal.
