Marston Taylor Bogert (born April 18, 1868 in Flushing , † March 21, 1954 in New York City ) was an American chemist.

Bogert studied from 1886 at Columbia University with a bachelor's degree in 1890 and he received his doctorate in 1894 with Charles Frederick Chandler at the Columbia School of Mines. During his studies, he was to take a course in organic chemistry with other students at EC Colby. Since he got sick and no replacement could be found, they taught themselves and Bogert came to organic chemistry. He was employed at Columbia as a lecturer in organic chemistry (without the usual stay at a German university for a doctorate at the time) and was professor of organic chemistry at Columbia University from 1904 to 1939.

He was mainly concerned with organic synthesis. During World War I he was on various committees and a colonel in chemical warfare. He was active in organizations of the chemical industry and gave lectures in Prague in 1927, where he received honorary doctorates from Charles University and the University of Bratislava.

In 1914 Bogert was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences . In 1938 he received the Priestley Medal and in 1936 the American Institute of Chemists Gold Medal . In 1916 he became a member of the National Academy of Sciences . In 1907/08 he was President of the American Chemical Society (ACS) and in 1912 of the Society of Chemical Industry . From 1938 to 1947 he was President of IUPAC . In 1917 he was the first chairman and founder of the chemistry department at the National Research Council. In 1937 he was elected an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh .
