history

The PUDD was recognized by the Tribunal de Recurso de Timor-Leste in August 2015 , and the founding ceremony took place on January 16, 2016. The first president of the party was Julio da Silva Salsinha , and vice-president Silvester Sufa .

In the 2017 parliamentary elections , the PUDD received 2.80% of the vote and failed to pass the four percent hurdle. The PUDD then joined the Fórum Demokrátiku Nasionál (FDN), but left the party alliance again at the end of 2017. To this end, the PUDD became a member of the Frenti Dezenvolvimentu Demokratiku (FDD) on December 11, 2017 . António de Sá Benevides , who was now President of the PUDD, was also elected President of the FDD.

With the FDD, the PUDD succeeded in entering the national parliament in the early elections in 2018 with a share of 5.5% (34,301 votes). With António de Sá Benevides it is now a member of parliament. The FDD broke up after the election of the parliamentary presidium.

On February 22, 2020, CNRT, KHUNTO, PD, UDT, FM and PUDD signed a coalition agreement to form a new government. But President Guterres did not respond to the Alliance's proposal to appoint Xanana Gusmão Prime Minister. At the end of April, the alliance broke up again when KHUNTO left.
