António de Sá Benevides (born September 2, 1979 in Becora , Dili , East Timor ) is an East Timorese politician. He is chairman of the Partidu Unidade Dezenvolvimentu Demokratieiku (PUDD).

Career

Benevides holds a degree in philosophy.

In the parliamentary elections in East Timor in 2017 , the PUDD was still in 67th place as the party's replacement candidate. The party failed anyway at the four percent hurdle. In 2017, the PUDD joined forces with two other parties to form the electoral alliance Frenti Dezenvolvimentu Demokratieiku (FDD). Benevides, now president of the PUDD and the FDD, made it into the national parliament of East Timor at number 1 on the list .

On the second day of the new parliament's session on June 14, 2018, Benevides boycotted the election of the enlarged parliamentary presidium together with the members of the opposition parties FRETILIN and PD . The reason was that the opposition parties were not considered by the candidates. Only Isabel Maria Barreto Freitas Ximenes from Frenti-Mudança (FM), Benevides' parliamentary colleague, was elected first deputy secretary of the Parliament's Bureau. Ximenes was supported by Gilman Exposto dos Santos from the União Democrática Timorense (UDT), the third FDD member , in addition to the members of the government coalition Aliança para Mudança e Progresso (AMP) . The FDD then broke up. As an individual MP, Benevides is a member of the parliamentary commissions for public finance (commission C) and for education, youth, culture and civil rights (commission G).
