Ramon Orlando

Ramón Orlando Valoy García (born June 29, 1960 in Santo Domingo ) is a Dominican merengue musician .

Orlando studied from 1975 at the Conservatorio Nacional de Música , where he graduated as Maestro de Piano. At the age of fourteen he made his debut as a soloist with the Orquesta La Tribu of his father Cuco Valoy , with whom he worked as a pianist, arranger, composer and singer until 1984.

In 1986 he founded the Orquesta Internacional , with which he won prizes such as El Gordo del Año , El Dorado and Casandra . In 1990 he and his orchestra represented the Dominican Republic at the Festival of Caribbean Music in Belgium. With the concert Las dos facetas del Maestro he performed in the New York Lehman Auditorium. With the concert No hay nadie más he performed in Santiago de los Caballeros, Santo Domingo, San Francisco, Chvón and La Vega.

In 1995 he founded the Los Cantantes group . With this he recorded the title El venao , which had international success in America and Europe. In 1997 he made his debut with the Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional de la República under the direction of José Antonio Molina as a classical pianist in George Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue .

In total, Orlando recorded more than 50 albums, including more than a dozen with his own ensembles. He was made an honorary citizen of Santo Domingo.
