A marginal depression is a small-scale low pressure area on the edge of an extensive cyclone , which develops from a separate air pressure minimum. It is surrounded by at least one isobar near the ground .

Edge lows can often lead to heavy rain or snowfall. A particularly strong representative is called a fast runner .
