Rangifer (trade journal)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Rangifer is a trade journal founded in Norway in 1981 that initially dealt with the subject of reindeer and reindeer herding, but expanded its focus to all ungulates in the north.

The general secretary of Reindeer Husbandry Research Sven Skjenneberg (1923–2009) brought out the magazine in Harstad in northern Norway, but its focus was initially on northern reindeer husbandry and herding, less on wild stocks. Detailed résumés in three languages should ensure international dissemination and knowledge of the contributions. In 1991 the language of publication was changed to English. However, the goal of having four issues per year had to be reduced to two.

In 1993 the paper was subtitled Research, Management and Husbandry of Reindeer and other Northern Ungulates . So without hiding the starting point, the range of topics was extended to northern ungulates.

Since 2008, Rangifer has been published exclusively on the Internet and the articles are made available to the public according to their receipt and internal review. The printed edition has been discontinued. The annual volume 38 was published in 2018.

Rangifer Special Issue , a department that publishes conference papers and monographs , digitally since 2008, has been published irregularly since 1986 . In addition, from 1995 to 2010, without peer review , the Rangifer Report appeared , where conference contributions or contributions from workshops were published.
